Genuine-Google Smartphone is Here – Nexus One

Android-powered phones have been around for a while, Genuine-Google Nexus One Smartphone with Android 2.1there are Motorola CLIQ and DROID, HTC Hero and Droid Eris, and T-Mobile G1 and myTouch, which were powered by Android 2.0 or earlier version (READ HERE). Today Google launches Nexus One, a Snapdragon-powered, HTC-built, genuine-article Google Smartphone, powered by the latest version of Android 2.1


  • Runs atop the much-hyped, rarely seen 1GHz Snapdragon CPU from Qualcomm (The iPhone 3GS, where the ‘S’ stands for speed, has a only 600 MHz processor)
  • 512MB of both RAM and ROM
  • The display is an AMOLED, 3.7-inch, 480 x 800 capacitive touchscreen
  • 5-megapixel camera and accompanying LED flash
  • WiFi and the prerequisite AGPS chip
  • contains a light sensor, proximity sensor, and accelerometer
  • an HSPA-capable GSM radio (only for 3G)
  • microSD slot (which comes loaded with a 4GB card, but is expandable to 32GB)

OS and Apps

  • re-design of look and feel of homescreen navigation
  • Improved Gallery application
  • Google text-to-speech engine which will attempt to translate your words into on-screen text
  • Google Goggles – picture searching capability
  • free voice-activated turn-by-turn GPS
  • Google Voice combined with Gizmo5 to provide a voice service

Price and Network

Nexus One is manufactured by HTC and destined for use on T-Mobile’s network.  It is said that the phone can be purchased for $179.99 with a two-year contract agreement with T-Mobile.  Nexus One is a GSM phone so only two U.S. carriers, AT&T and T-Mobile, will be able to support the phone.  Other sources say an unlocked Nexus One will be available for $529.99.
